Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.

Psalm 127

OUR STORY

After graduating from Glad Tidings Bible Institute in San Francisco, CA in 1938, Rev. Gordon K. Peterson pioneered churches in Nebraska and Kansas. In 1946, God called Rev. Peterson and his wife Irene to pioneer a new work in Minneapolis. Calvary Temple began as an independent, interdenominational church that grew into a large, city-wide ministry that came to be known as "SOULS HARBOR," offering a Bible School, radio and TV broadcast, a summer camp, conference center, and many other effective outreaches. During its greatest days of growth, Calvary Temple worshipped at such places as the Lyceum Theater, and the Nicollet Hotel to accommodate the growing congregation and the needs of the ministry. Many great pastors, missionaries, and ministries were sent out from Calvary Temple.

In October of 1984, while preaching in Baton Rouge, LA, Rev. Peterson went home to be with the Lord. His mantle was passed on to his son, Gordon K. Peterson, Jr., who along with his wife Nancy, took over as Senior Pastors of Calvary Temple. Under its new leadership, the church continued to be faithful to its original vision, making a difference in the Minneapolis area. After seeing the congregation move in and out of various temporary facilities, Pastor Gordon and Nancy, moved the church to our current location, and in 1997, the name was changed to Calvary Worship Center. In June of 2003, after nearly 20 years as Senior Pastors, Pastor Gordon and Nancy Peterson retired from the ministry.

In October of 2003, Pastor Trey Williford accepted the call to become only the third pastor in Calvary Worship Center's 56 year history. He, along with his wife Jennifer, and their infant son Jake moved to the Twin Cities. In response to the Lord's calling, Trey's service at Calvary included unifying the body and changing the bylaws to their current state.

The church then went through about a six month season where the elders ministered to the saints.  At the end of the six months, God brought us our current pastor, who was voted in by the people of Calvary on April 1st, 2007 and Rev. Mark M. Marxhausen became the new official Senior Pastor of Calvary Worship Center

Pastors Mark and Julie Marxhausen have been in ministry since 1985, having served in four congregations during those years. They have also had the opportunity to plant five churches. Pastor Mark, an ordained minister of the Gospel, has taken numerous mission trips:  Kazakhstan, Russia, Peru, Brazil and Mexico. His main mission calling is to Papua New Guinea, where he has ministered ten times over the past ten years in apostolic leadership.  He has also preached at numerous  Revival/Healing meetings here in the United StatesPastor Mark also serves as Director of Church Relations at International Ministerial Fellowship. Julie, a licensed minister of the Gospel is a teacher by spiritual gifting, and focuses on women, children, and marriages.  She teaches all age levels and is active in mentoring women.

Both Pastors Mark and Julie love prayer ministry, healing and deliverance ministry, equipping the saints, maturing the Body of Christ, releasing people into their God-given dreams and destinies once they have been prepared.  They both love the Word of God and love to equip people to be doers of the Word, not hearers only.  Mark, Julie, and their youngest daughter Keturah live in Rosemount, Minnesota. Their two oldest children are married and live in the Twin Cities and their other daughter attends the U of M and lives in Roseville.
